Summer

My university’s Association of Computing and Machinery chapter has a “Projects” division for students interested in application development every semester. Each project group contains an industry mentor and a project manager for help.

I was part of a team of four that developed a proof-of-concept study tool app named Summer. This was around the time OpenAI released their first models to the public, so we utilized GPT-3.5 to generate summaries and quizzes from educational YouTube videos.

I was responsible for the backend and wrote an entire end-to-end script for the data retrieval. I utilized YouTube-dl, the OpenAI API, and a bunch of regex all within NodeJS. The rest of backend consisted of storing the metadata in Firebase and S3 to display this information in designated web pages.

The final result was showcased in front of hundreds of industry experts, faculty, and students. It can be found as a recorded livestream on YouTube.
